June 12: Ododo Pledges to Deepen Inclusion, Good Governance

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has assured citizens that his administration will continue to deepen inclusiveness and promote good governance to accommodate the interests of the people of the state.

In a message to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration, Ododo described June 12 as a day of remembrance, reflection, and renewed commitment to the ideals of justice, fairness, and the will of the people.

He noted that the day represents more than just a public holiday, stating that it stands as a symbol of the people’s resilience and the desire of millions of Nigerians for a just and fair society.

“Democracy was not handed to us. It was fought for by brave Nigerians who demanded justice, fairness, and inclusion. Today, we honour those sacrifices,” the governor said.

Governor Ododo hailed the heroes of the pro-democracy struggle, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as one of the leading voices that championed the cause of freedom during the dark days of military rule.

He also emphasized the role of Kogi State and its people in the struggle for democracy, noting that the founding fathers of the state were firm believers in justice and fairness.

“In Kogi, we are beneficiaries of this hard-won democracy. We have a duty not just to preserve it, but to make it work for the people through transparency, accountability, and service to the people,” he said.

The governor highlighted that his administration is investing in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, and security to build a more inclusive society where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

Governor Ododo urged Nigerian youths to see themselves as active players in the democratic process, emphasizing that they are not just future leaders but current drivers of national progress.

“You are not the leaders of tomorrow. You are the ones shaping today. Get involved, speak up, and contribute to nation-building,” he stated.

He also called on traditional rulers, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and public office holders to contribute to strengthening democratic values through service and patriotism.

Reaffirming his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governor stated that Kogi State would continue to align with national policies aimed at uplifting citizens and promoting unity.

“As your chief servant, I will continue to work for the safety, prosperity, and dignity of every citizen in our dear state,” Ododo added.

He concluded by calling for unity, peace, and collective responsibility to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic journey.
