NKFI to Establish Automobile Assembly Plant in Kogi

The Nigeria–Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI) Vocational and Advanced Technology has unveiled plans to establish an automobile assembly plant in Kogi State.

The Rector of the Institute, Mr. Williams Charles Oluwatoyin, disclosed this on Thursday during a working visit to the institute in Lokoja by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah accompanied by his team from LugardTV

According to the Rector, the proposed plant is in collaboration with selected automobile manufacturers to mark a shift in the Institute’s focus from purely technical education to full-scale industrial operations.

He explained that the plant would contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growing automobile sector while also serving as a practical training hub for students.

“This project aligns with the vision of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to industrialize Kogi State and create sustainable development and employment opportunities for the youth. The assembly plant will integrate hands-on learning with real-world manufacturing, giving our students a global edge,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the plant would be located within the NKFI campus in Lokoja and focus on assembling motorcycles and compact vehicles, with plans to expand into full automobile assembly in the near future.

Speaking during the visit, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah, who was at the institute to assess ongoing projects and document emerging innovations, applauded the initiative, describing it as timely and strategic.

He reiterated the commitment of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to supporting innovative and transformative ventures that have the potential to reshape the state’s economic landscape.

“This is a commendable move by NKFI. The administration of Governor Ododo is committed to supporting impactful projects like this. We believe this plant will not only enhance skills acquisition among our youth but also boost local production capacity,” he said.

The visit also featured a guided tour of the institute’s workshops and training facilities, where the Special Adviser interacted with students and instructors in departments such as automotive mechatronics, welding, engineering, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
