Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies in UK Hospital at 83

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away in a hospital in the United Kingdom.

The news of his death was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by his former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, who revealed that the ex-leader died earlier in the day.

Details surrounding the cause of death are yet to be officially disclosed, but sources indicate that Buhari had been receiving medical attention in the UK for an undisclosed ailment.

His passing marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures, known for his military background and two-term civilian presidency.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, leaves behind a legacy marked by bold policies, fierce anti-corruption rhetoric, and a deeply divided public opinion. Tributes and reactions from global leaders, political allies, and citizens are already pouring in.
