Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their triumphant victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they claimed a record-breaking 10th continental title with a dramatic win over host nation Morocco in Rabat.
Describing the victory as “a moment of national pride and a glowing testament to the unyielding spirit of the Nigerian,” Governor Ododo hailed the Super Falcons’ historic feat, emphasizing that their resilience and excellence continue to inspire the nation.
Already the most successful team in African women’s football, the Super Falcons further cemented their legacy by becoming the first team to win the WAFCON title ten times. The Governor praised their remarkable comeback performance in the final, where they overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to clinch a stunning 3-2 victory.
“This is more than a football victory; it is a story of grit, grace, and the greatness of the Nigerian girl and woman,” Governor Ododo stated. “By this achievement, the Super Falcons have shown the world that Nigeria’s strength lies not only in our talent but in our fighting spirit. We celebrate this win, which has lifted the hopes and spirit of the entire nation.”
He commended the players for their team spirit and individual brilliance, which collectively delivered Nigeria’s 10th title, and also lauded the coaching crew and technical team for their leadership and strategic excellence throughout the tournament.
“This victory is symbolic. It affirms that with vision, discipline, and teamwork, even the steepest odds can be overcome,” the Governor added.
Governor Ododo also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for the team, noting that such backing played a key role in motivating the players to victory.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the development of youth and women in sports, Governor Ododo emphasized that the Super Falcons’ triumph aligns with his government’s broader mission to empower young people through sports, education, and innovation.
“This win is not just a trophy, it is a spark of hope and a call to action for every young Nigerian especially girls who dream of achieving greatness through dedication and discipline,” he concluded.
