In a grand display of academic achievement and institutional progress, the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has held its 9th Convocation Ceremony during which it conferred degrees, diplomas, and postgraduate honours on over 5,000 students, marking one of the most remarkable milestones in the history of the university.
The event brought together students, scholars, parents and dignitaries from all walks of life to celebrate the university’s culture of sustained growth and commitment to excellence.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, said the convocation symbolized the university’s resilience and rising academic profile.
He revealed that the graduating class comprised 3,466 graduates from first degree programme, 838 students from the postgraduate programmes, and 747 in diploma programmee from various faculties and colleges.
He praised the graduating students for their hard work and perseverance, noting that FUL has continued to produce well-rounded graduates who are equipped to drive national transformation.
He disclosed that 3,466 students graduated from various degree programmes out of which 35 students earned First Class Honours, 760 graduated with Second Class Upper, 2,287 with Second Class Lower, 383 with Third Class, and one student with a Pass.
Prof. Akinwumi announced that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service Dr. Adewale Adeniyi and famous Nollywood actor and lawmaker, Desmond Elliot were among graduates from the Doctoral Programme of the university, describing their participation as a rare demonstration of humility and lifelong learning that also brought touch of glamour to the ceremony.
He urged other professionals to emulate such commitment to self-improvement and academic pursuit.
The Vice-Chancellor also recognized Haruna Sherif Ohieku from the Department of Geology as the overall best-graduating student with an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.77.
He described him as a symbol of the university’s culture of excellence and intellectual discipline.
