Chelsea battled to a hard-fought draw against league leaders Arsenal in a fiery Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge, despite being reduced to 10 men before halftime.
The match opened with both sides pushing aggressively to assert dominance. Early pressure produced clear-cut chances for Bukayo Saka and Estevão, but neither player was able to convert.
The game’s major flashpoint arrived in the 38th minute when Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo was sent off following a VAR review. His late challenge caught Merino on the ankle, prompting the referee to brandish a red card, Chelsea’s sixth of the season.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Chelsea’s disciplined defensive line held firm, anchored by the commanding duo of Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana.

Even with a man down, Chelsea produced the game’s best opportunities to snatch all three points, with Pedro Neto, substitute Liam Delap, and Fofana all coming close.
Arsenal nearly stole a late winner through Merino’s edge-of-the-box strike, while a long-range attempt from Saka stood out as their only other significant threat in the second half.
The draw extends Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, while Chelsea sit one point further back in third. The result also stretches the Gunners’ unbeaten run to 17 matches across all competitions, which dates back to 30 August.
