Barcelona Fight Back to Defeat Atletico, Extend Lead in La Liga

Barcelona extended their lead at the top of La Liga to four points with a 3-1 comeback victory over Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp.

After Alex Baena put the visitors ahead, Raphinha drew Barcelona level, before Dani Olmo netted a well-taken goal to put the hosts in front with 25 minutes remaining. Ferran Torres sealed the win with a late third.

Following their 2-1 El Clasico loss to Real Madrid in October, Barcelona were five points behind. But five matches later, they now sit top with a four-point cushion, though Madrid have a game in hand and face Athletic Club in Bilbao on Wednesday.

Atletico Madrid took an early lead in the 19th minute when Alex Baena beat Barcelona’s high line and chipped goalkeeper Joan Garcia. Though initially flagged offside, the goal stood after a VAR review.

Barcelona responded quickly, with Raphinha leveling seven minutes later after latching onto Pedri’s precise through ball, rounding Jan Oblak and slotting into an empty net.

The hosts dominated the first half and had a chance to go ahead from the spot after Pablo Barrios fouled Dani Olmo, but Robert Lewandowski fired the penalty over the bar.

The second half turned into a frantic end-to-end contest. Olmo eventually gave Barça the lead with a low strike after a dazzling run by Lamine Yamal, but was injured in the process.

Atletico missed a golden chance to equalise when Thiago Almada rounded Garcia but failed to convert into an open net. Ferran Torres then sealed the 3-1 win, finishing from close range after controlling Alejandro Balde’s cross.

Despite the victory, Barcelona were left to rue injuries and missed chances from Lewandowski and Raphinha.
