Arsenal Extends Premier League Lead as Man City Slip Up

Arsenal survived a tense clash at Brighton to stretch their Premier League lead to seven points.

Brighton dominated large parts of the match, but Bukayo Saka’s early deflected strike proved decisive, securing a crucial victory for Mikel Arteta’s side—especially after Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners nearly started disastrously when goalkeeper David Raya’s clearance fell straight to Carlos Baleba, whose attempted chip was weak, allowing Gabriel to retreat and clear off the line. Arsenal’s fortune continued in the ninth minute as Saka’s routine shot deflected off Baleba and slipped through Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen’s legs.

Brighton’s fans, riled up by coach Fabian Hurzeler, grew increasingly frustrated with what they perceived as time-wasting. Their anger peaked just before the hour mark when Raya saved Georginio Rutter’s effort, staying down to receive treatment for a shoulder knock.

Brighton pressed hard and should have equalized, but Mats Wieffer headed straight at Raya from close range. Ultimately, Brighton faded, allowing Arsenal to secure another scrappy, but vitally important win on a night when Manchester City faltered.
