Manchester United climbed to sixth place in the Premier League after producing a strong second-half performance to defeat a troubled Wolves side 4–1 at Molineux.
The match unfolded against a backdrop of unrest, as home fans staged a 15-minute protest against the club’s Chinese ownership, leaving pockets of empty seats visible from kickoff.
Wolves, who had not scored in their last six matches, shocked United by taking the lead. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde pounced on a loose ball after David Moller Wolfe’s mis-hit attempt, ending the club’s lengthy 540-minute goal drought.
United had wasted several early chances and were punished further when captain Bruno Fernandes failed to convert after a defensive lapse from Andre deep in Wolves’ half.
The turning point came shortly after the break. A forceful challenge by Luke Shaw on Bellegarde triggered a swift United counter-attack, with Diogo Dalot squaring the ball for Bryan Mbeumo to tap home the equaliser.
The goal settled United’s nerves, and they seized control of the contest from that moment.
Mason Mount extended the lead with a composed first-time finish, expertly bringing down a lifted pass from Fernandes. It was the first time since March that United held a two-goal lead away from home, underscoring their renewed confidence on the road. Wolves, meanwhile, struggled to respond as their defensive frailties resurfaced.
United’s dominance was sealed late on when VAR spotted a handball from Yerson Mosquera, allowing Fernandes to convert from the spot and complete the 4–1 victory.
The heavy defeat intensified pressure on Wolves manager Rob Edwards, as his team slumped to an eighth straight league loss equalling a club record. Boos and sarcastic cheers rang out from the home end, particularly when striker Jorgen Strand Larsen was substituted, reflecting a fan base increasingly frustrated with chairman Jeff Shi and the club’s deepening crisis.
