Gov. Ododo Pledges to Sustain Support for Widows, Vulnerable Groups in Kogi

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has said his administration will sustain support and through timely interventions to improve the wellbeing of widows and other vulnerable groups in the state, declaring that their welfare remains a core priority of the administration government.

Governor Ododo gave the assurance when he received a delegation of Kogi State widows on a courtesy visit at his residence in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo described himself as the “husband of all widows in Kogi State,” stressing that his administration would continue to stand by them in preserving their dignity, care, and empowerment of families left behind by their breadwinners.

He disclosed plans to establish a comprehensive database of widows in the state to ensure structured, transparent, and sustainable interventions.

Governor Ododo emphasized the essence of governance with compassion which he noted remains central to his leadership philosophy, assuring that widows and other vulnerable citizens will continue to benefit from targeted social protection and empowerment programmes across the state.

While reaffirming his administration’s resolve to leave no vulnerable group or individual behind in the state, the governor announced the donation of the sum of ₦5 million and 300 bags of rice to the widows as part of his end of year gift to the group.

In her remarks, Kogi State Widows Coordinator, Mrs. Ojone Ojottah said the visit was to offer prayers for the governor and to endorse him for a second term in office.

Mrs. Ojottah further noted that the widows were encouraged by the compassion and support they have received under the Ododo administration, noting that no governor has demonstrated such commitment to the welfare of widows as Governor Ododo and his wife since the creation of Kogi State and the establishment of the widows’ association in the state.

She said the association decided to formally pray for and endorse the governor for a second term in recognition of his people-oriented policies and consistent support for widows across the state.
