SSA to Kogi First Lady Spreads Christmas Cheer, Empowers Over 100 Vulnerable Women in Okehi

In the spirit of Christmas and the season of giving, the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Kogi State on Electronic Media, Office of the First Lady, Hon. Janet Samuel, has brought smiles to the faces of vulnerable women in her community with a special Christmas outreach aimed at easing the burden of the festive season.

The outreach, held ahead of the yuletide, at Uboro/Omavie/Ohuepe Ward in Okehi Local Government Area, saw over 100 women, including widows, persons with disabilities and the elderly receive food items and cash support to enable them celebrate Christmas with dignity.

The beneficiaries which has both Christian and Muslim members of the community received 5kg bags of rice, food ingredients and cash donations, underscoring the inclusive nature of the initiative and reinforcing the message of unity and compassion that defines the Christmas season.

Speaking during the Christmas Outreach, Hon. Janet said the initiative was inspired by her commitment to giving back to society and aligning with the people-centred vision of the Renewed Hope agenda being championed in Kogi State by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his wife, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo.

She expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ododo for his people-friendly policies, particularly the prompt payment of salaries, infrastructural development, and overall good governance that continue to improve the welfare of citizens across the state.

Hon. Janet also commended the wife of the Governor for her motherly role and unwavering commitment to the well-being of women and vulnerable groups through numerous empowerment programmes and humanitarian interventions across the state.

According to her, the First Lady has consistently ensured that women at the grassroots are reached through her aides, adding that the wife of the Governor believes “no woman should go hungry or be left behind.”

She assured the beneficiaries of more dividends of democracy, while calling on women at the grassroots to continue to pray for the success of the current administration and for the re-election of Governor Ododo in 2027.

Also speaking at the event, the former APC Chairman of Okehi Local Govt, Hon. Dauda Momohjimoh, thanked the Governor for ongoing road projects linking several villages within the community, describing it as a long-awaited intervention.

He equally expressed appreciation to the wife of the Governor for extending such kindness to women in the ward through Hon. Janet, and appealed to the state government to consider the community’s pressing need of a source of clean and potable water.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Ward Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon. Hajara Achi thanked Governor Ododo and the First Lady for their continuous support and prayed for God’s divine guidance for the administration.

She expressed joy over the food distribution, noting that it would go a long way in cushioning effects of the current economic hardship in the area.

While commending Hon. Janet for her effective representation at the state level, she prayed for greater heights in her political journey.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Asmau Umar, a widow, could not hide her excitement as she described the outreach as unprecedented in the history of ecommunity.

“This is the first time we are receiving rice in this quantity,” she said, while offering prayers for the Governor, the First Lady, and the organizers, wishing them success as the 2027 elections approach.

The Christmas outreach once again highlights the growing role of grassroots-driven humanitarian efforts in strengthening social cohesion and bringing governance closer to the people of Kogi State.
