Manchester United Stumble as Burnley Rally Denies Victory in Fletcher’s Debut

Manchester United missed out on victory in their first match following the dismissal of head coach Ruben Amorim, as struggling Burnley staged a comeback to earn only their third point in 12 games.

The visitors seemed set to secure a comeback win when striker Benjamin Sesko netted twice within a 10-minute period early in the second half, both goals coming from sharp, first-time finishes.

Burnley had taken the lead before halftime through an own goal by Ayden Heaven, and just when it appeared they would suffer another loss after Sesko’s strikes, Jaidon Anthony leveled the score.

It was a frustrating night for interim United boss Darren Fletcher, who abandoned Amorim’s formation with three central defenders and wing-backs, yet still saw his team create numerous chances.

Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu both had shots cleared off the line, Lisandro Martinez had a goal ruled out for a contentious push on former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker, and Sesko missed a couple of chances to complete his hat-trick. Teenage substitute Shea Lacey also rattled the bar with a superb curled effort.

Before the game, the visiting fans voiced their discontent with the club’s hierarchy, unfurling a banner condemning minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and singing a harsh song about co-chairman Joel Glazer.

Despite this, they also loudly expressed support for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, the leading candidates to act as caretaker managers until the season’s end.
