The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three men in connection with the killing of a housewife, Mrs. Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of the state.
The arrests followed a coordinated overnight operation by police operatives, signaling a swift response to the incident that shocked residents of the area.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Kano, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, 23; Isyaku Yakubu, 40; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation carried out between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.
Kiyawa disclosed that preliminary findings indicate Auwalu, who is related to the deceased, played a central role in the crime. Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothing, mobile phones believed to belong to the victims, and weapons allegedly used during the attack, alongside cash suspected to have been taken from the scene.
The police spokesperson said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings and to track down any other persons who may have been involved.
He assured the public of the Command’s resolve to ensure justice is served, while commending the officers whose efforts led to the arrests.
