Kogi Begins Rehabilitation, Upgrade of Nine Livestock Markets

Kogi State Government says it has commenced the rehabilitation and upgrade of nine livestock markets across the state under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, L-Pres.

The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Olufemi Bolarin, announced this during a stakeholders’ engagement and site handover at the Okumi Livestock Market in Lokoja.

The Commissioner praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritising livestock development and security, urging farmers and traders to promote peace and cooperation.

According to him,
the initiative aims to boost livestock productivity, improve infrastructure, and strengthen resilience in the sector across Kogi State.

The State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Abdulkabir Otaru, said the project has received World Bank approval, completed procurement, and awarded the contract to RSA Global Investment Limited.

He confirmed that construction work has begun and it is expected to be completed within six to twelve months.

Otaru explained that one livestock market in each federal constituency will be upgraded with facilities including veterinary clinics, administrative blocks, water supply, toilets, security posts, solar streetlights, and loading ramps.

Community leaders, local government officials, and market representatives pledged full support for the project, while the contractor assured of quality project delivery and timely completion.
