Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Abuja, Arrest One Suspect

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stopped an attempted armed robbery in the Kado area of Abuja, arresting one suspect and recovering several items.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident happened on Friday, January 23, 2026, at about 6:15 a.m. when a distress call was received at the Mabushi Divisional Headquarters reporting that armed robbers were attacking motorists near the MRS Filling Station in Kado.

Adeh said that a police response team quickly moved to the scene. On sighting the officers, the three suspects tried to escape, leading to a chase and an exchange of gunfire.

He noted that during the operation, one suspect who was shot and injured was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the other suspects fled into nearby bushes.

The Police recovered several items from the scene, including the suspects’ operational vehicle, a black Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW. Other items recovered include one Beretta pistol, a locally made pistol, a Firman generator, two mobile phones, an Access Bank ATM card, a catapult, pliers, clothing items, and footwear.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He also urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity through the police emergency lines.

The Police assured the residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
