NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results, Over 80% Secure Five Credits

The National Examinations Council has announced the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with over 80 per cent of candidates obtaining five credits and above.

The results were announced on Tuesday by NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Prof. Wushishi disclosed that 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males and 45,156 females, while 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the exams across 16 subjects.

In English Language, 73,167 candidates, representing 78.32 per cent, obtained credit and above out of 93,425 candidates who sat for the subject. Mathematics recorded 91.35 per cent, from 93,330 candidates.

Overall, 68,166 candidates secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates recorded five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.

On examination malpractice, the NECO Registrar revealed that 9,016 candidates were involved in various infractions, marking a 31.7 per cent increase compared to 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.

He added that two supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo States were recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting malpractice.

Additionally, two centres in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano were recommended for de-recognition after being found involved in whole-centre malpractice.

Candidates were advised to check their results via NECO’s official website using their registration numbers.

The SSCE External examination is designed mainly for private candidates seeking certification outside the formal school system, including those aiming to improve previous grades.
