The Federal Government has condemned the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba in Jos North local government area of Plateau State, assuring citizens that security agencies are taking decisive steps to restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, conveyed the condolences of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the victims and the people of Plateau State at a press conference in Abuja.
“The Federal Government expresses deep concern over the tragic attack in Jos and extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims,” he said.
Idris disclosed that troops under Operation Enduring Peace were immediately deployed to the scene, where security forces cordoned off the area and launched search and rescue operations.
“Let me assure Nigerians that security agencies responded immediately. These swift actions ensured that the situation was quickly contained,” he stated.
He noted that the response forms part of ongoing security operations across Plateau and the North-Central region, involving intelligence-led missions, reinforced troop deployments, and joint patrols.
The Minister also revealed that President Tinubu has held a high-level meeting with security chiefs and invited Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for further consultations.
At the state level, he noted that a 48-hour curfew has been imposed in Jos North to stabilise the situation and support security operations.
While describing the incident as regrettable, Idris said it reflects a localised security challenge rather than a breakdown of national security.
“What occurred does not represent a breakdown of national security, but rather a criminal act being actively addressed,” he said.
He assured Nigerians that those responsible will be apprehended and prosecuted.
“There will be no safe haven for criminal elements anywhere in Nigeria,” he declared.
Reaffirming government’s commitment, Idris added, “The security situation in Plateau State is under control and is being actively managed,” while urging citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
