President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced fresh leadership decisions in Nigeria’s energy sector, appointing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) while renewing the tenure of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, both decisions take immediate effect. Aliyu steps into the PTDF role following the resignation of Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who left office to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
The Presidency described Aliyu as an accomplished academic and administrator, highlighting his track record in research and institutional leadership. His appointment, officials noted, aligns with the administration’s broader strategy to reposition the PTDF as a driver of human capital development and innovation within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
In the power sector, the renewal of Abdulaziz’s tenure for a second and final term follows what the government termed a comprehensive performance review. Under his leadership, the TCN has recorded notable gains in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing modernization of national infrastructure.
President Tinubu urged both appointees to approach their responsibilities with integrity and diligence, emphasizing the importance of their roles in delivering on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Presidency also underscored Abdulaziz’s extensive experience and his contributions to regional electricity collaboration through engagements with the West African Power Pool.
