The Federal Government has warned that communities across 10 states may experience heavy rainfall, potentially leading to flooding, between April 8 and April 12, 2026.

The warning was issued by the National Flood Early Warning Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment in a flood prediction notice dated April 8, 2026, and signed by the Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Bokani.

According to the Ministry, states likely to be affected include Ebonyi, Anambra, Ogun, Taraba, Cross River, Benue, Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Abia.

The Ministry stated that in Ebonyi State, Afikpo and Nkalagu may be affected, while in Anambra State, Atani, Iyowa Odekpe, Odekpe, and Onitsha were listed.

Other locations identified include Donga, Lau, Serti, Takum and Yorro in Taraba; Edor, Ikom and Itigidi in Cross River; Igumale in Benue; Okigwe and Owerri in Imo; Oko Anara in Delta; Port Harcourt in Rivers; and Umuahia in Abia State.

The ministry noted that the listed areas and their environs are likely to witness intense rainfall that may result in flooding within the prediction period.

It added that the warning aligns with earlier advisories by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency cautioning farmers against early planting due to deceptive rainfall patterns recorded earlier in February and early March 2026.

The Federal Government urged residents and relevant stakeholders in the likely affected areas to take precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of possible flooding.
