Leeds Take Giant Leap to Safety After Crushing Burnley

Leeds United took a huge stride toward securing their Premier League status after a commanding victory over Burnley at Elland Road pushed them nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Anton Stach set the tone early, firing the hosts ahead in the eighth minute, before Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck shortly after the interval to seal an emphatic result that lifted Leeds to 14th in the table.

The win moves Daniel Farke’s men onto 43 points a total that has historically guaranteed safety in a 38-game Premier League season.

Loum Tchaouna grabbed a late consolation for the already-relegated Burnley, but it did little to change the outcome as the Clarets extended their winless league streak to nine matches.

Leeds wasted no time asserting control, with Stach cleared fit despite an injury scare against Chelsea collecting a pass from Jaka Bijol before drilling a superb long-range strike into the bottom corner. It was his fourth goal of the season from outside the box, the highest tally of any player in the division.

From that point, Leeds dominated proceedings and nearly doubled their lead before Quilindschy Hartman produced a crucial last-ditch challenge.

Burnley, now without a manager following Scott Parker’s departure earlier in the week, came closest before half-time when Jaidon Anthony’s header was inadvertently blocked by team-mate Zian Flemming.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly crushed after the break. Okafor continued his rich vein of form by netting his sixth goal in seven games, finishing off Jayden Bogle’s cross after a flowing team move initiated by Calvert-Lewin.

Just four minutes later, Calvert-Lewin capitalized on a costly mistake from Martin Dubravka to score his 12th league goal of the campaign and put the result beyond doubt.

Burnley pulled one back through Tchaouna in the closing stages, but a 23rd defeat of the season leaves them rooted in 19th place.
