Arsenal emerged champions of the English Premier League on Tuesday, ending a 22-year wait for the title after rivals Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.
After finishing runner -up in the previous seasons, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners finally made it over the line to end a six-year trophy drought.
Arsenal had drawn closer to the title after securing a 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday, leaving Manchester City needing a win to keep the race alive until the final day.
However, City failed to get the expected result on the south coast as Eli Junior Kroupi gave Bournemouth a first-half lead before Erling Haaland scored a late equaliser that proved insufficient to stop Arsenal’s coronation.
The North London club, which had ended runners-up in each of the previous three seasons, secured its 14th English league title, moving behind only Manchester United and Liverpool who both have 20 league titles.
Arteta had earlier described himself as Bournemouth’s “biggest fan” ahead of the decisive encounter, with his close friend and Bournemouth manager, Andoni Iraola, eventually leading his side to the result that sealed Arsenal’s victory.
The title victory sparked celebrations among Arsenal supporters across London, particularly around the club’s Emirates Stadium, as fans celebrated the end of a two-decade wait for Premier League glory.
