The management of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has taken a major step toward strengthening academic administration with the allocation of official vehicles to four faculty deans, a development widely regarded as a landmark achievement in the institution’s growth.

The presentation was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, who said the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to improving administrative efficiency and supporting academic leaders in carrying out their responsibilities effectively.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Professor Ibileye noted that the provision of the vehicles forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance leadership structures within the university and address transportation challenges faced by key academic officers.

He emphasized that the vehicles are institutional assets attached to the offices of the deans and not personal property, stressing that they are intended to facilitate official duties and improve service delivery across the faculties.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university remains focused on achieving steady progress through deliberate and sustainable interventions, adding that management will continue to expand similar support to other faculties in due course.

Professor Ibileye also disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education had commended the university for its forward-thinking approach to transportation, particularly its plans to introduce electric mobility solutions. He revealed that arrangements are underway to procure 50 electric mini buses to improve movement within the university community.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor S. D. Musa, praised the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership and described the initiative as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to staff welfare and institutional advancement.

Following a ballot allocation process, the Faculty of Arts received a black Toyota Sienna, the Faculty of Social Sciences was allocated a Toyota Camry 2010 model, the Faculty of Life Sciences received a Toyota Camry 2012 model, while the Faculty of Physical Sciences got a blue Toyota Sienna.

The beneficiary deans were Professor Ochi Abdulrahman Suberu (Faculty of Arts), Professor Mohammed Nasirudeen Suleiman (Faculty of Life Sciences), Professor Moses Niyi Gbenga Omofa (Faculty of Social Sciences), and Professor Olalekan Salawu (Faculty of Physical Sciences).

In his remarks, Professor Ibileye described the development as a significant milestone for the university, noting that it marked the end of a long-standing situation where faculty deans operated without official vehicles.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Professor Ochi Abdulrahman Suberu, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, expressed gratitude to the university management for the gesture and assured that the deans would continue to support efforts aimed at advancing the institution’s vision and goals.

The initiative highlights Federal University Lokoja’s continued drive to strengthen academic leadership, improve operational efficiency, and position the institution for greater growth and competitiveness.
