The Kogi State Government has announced a series of immediate security measures aimed at disrupting the logistics and supply networks of criminal elements operating in parts of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area following recent security breaches in the area.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the government said the measures followed a comprehensive review of ongoing security operations in Bunu District after the terrorist attack on Iluke Community, which was successfully repelled by security forces.
According to the statement, intelligence and operational reports indicate that joint security forces have recorded significant successes, with several attackers neutralized and others sustaining injuries while remaining trapped in forests and remote locations as clearance operations continue.
To consolidate the gains made by security agencies and deny criminals access to food, water, fuel, medication and other essential supplies, the government has imposed an immediate ban on the use of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, across designated hinterland routes in Bunu District.
The affected areas include the Idoyi Bunu–Illah Bunu–Iluke Bunu–Kiri corridor, as well as routes linking Iluke Bunu, Odai Bunu, Igbo Bunu, Ilogun Bunu, Olle Bunu, Ayede Bunu, Oke-Ofin Bunu and Edumo Bunu.
The restrictions also cover the Ayede Bunu–Aherin–Eshi–Ighun Bunu axis and other hinterland routes across the district.
The government noted that intelligence reports have identified motorcycle operators as a major channel through which food items, water, drugs and other logistics are transported to bandits hiding in the forests.
The government says investigations also revealed that some criminal elements use motorcycles to conduct reconnaissance and gather intelligence on communities before launching attacks.
“Consequently, any motorcycle rider found transporting passengers, goods or supplies along the designated routes shall be apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Kogi State Anti-Terrorism Law.
The Motorcycle Operators Association of Nigeria (MOAN) is by this statement directed to immediately sensitize all its members on this directive, which takes effect from today, Saturday, June 13, 2026.”
The statement further directed that all markets located along the affected corridors remain closed until further notice, while mobile medicine vendors and distributors have been ordered to suspend the transportation and sale of drugs on motorcycles within the affected areas for the duration of the operation.
It also announced an immediate ban on the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) in jerricans throughout Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
“Furthermore, as part of measures to strengthen security across the state and deny criminal elements the opportunity to operate under the cover of darkness, the Kogi State Government hereby announces a ban on night travel on all state-owned roads across Kogi State.
Consequently, the satement said all movements on state roads must cease by 7:00 p.m. daily until further notice.
Any person found travelling on a state-owned road after 7:00 p.m. shall be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
The government also disclosed that it possesses credible intelligence on individuals allegedly collaborating with criminal elements and providing support for their activities, assuring that appropriate legal actions are already being taken against such persons.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has therefore directed all security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of the measures and full compliance by residents and stakeholders.
The government also warned that anyone found aiding, supplying, harbouring or collaborating with terrorists would be treated as an accomplice and prosecuted accordingly.
The state government called on residents to cooperate with security agencies, remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to support ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace across the affected communities in the state.
