The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi, has announced new security measures across campus following an “unfortunate security breach” on June 11.
In a notice signed by the Registrar, Mr Siyaka Audu, after the University Management Committee’s 401st Regular Meeting, the management directed immediate enforcement of restrictions to protect staff, students and stakeholders.
According to the school management, no student will be allowed on campus with personal cars and motorcycles, including Haojue, TVS and other unapproved motorcycles until further notice.
The notice stated that tinted vehicles and vehicles with concealed number plates are also barred from the school premises.
It added that the main gate would serve as the only entrance and exit, while other gates will be opened only for pedestrians.
Students are also directed to display their Identity Cards while on campus.
The notice said the Chief Security Officer will register commercial motorcycle riders with union leaders and enforce a 35km speed limit within the university environment.
It added that vehicle owners must obtain Vehicle Identification Tallies from the CSO, with a N5,000 fine for misplaced tallies.
It further stated that the suspension of all unauthorised student gatherings remains in force.
The Management also directed the CSO, Director of Physical Planning and Director of Works and Maintenance to block all illegal routes into the campus.
To improve movement within the university, management said solar-powered tricycle would complement existing campus shuttle services.
The management urged strict compliance with the new measures while calling for cooperation with the 11-member committee investigating the security breach.
The development followed the killing of a 300-level Biochemistry student of the institution by suspected cultists on June 11.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Salisu Usman, said two suspects were arrested the same day by the university’s internal security team in connection with the incident.
