Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has secured a historic second term in office after a landslide victory in the 2026 governorship election, becoming the first incumbent governor to win re-election in the history of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the election after polling 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Dr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 40,543 votes.
Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 12,872 votes.
Oyebanji’s victory saw the APC sweep all 16 local government areas of the state, reinforcing the party’s dominance and widespread acceptance of the governor’s leadership across Ekiti state.
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo played pivotal roles in the election of Governor Oyebanji.
Governor Ododo who had earlier led the national assignment of the party that supervised the APC primary election which produced Oyebanji as the party’s flag bearer was on ground to mobilize voters, especially the Kogi communities in more than five local government areas in support of the governor’s re-election bid across the state.
