Adeyemi Faces Court Over PFIPC Saga, Pressure Mounts on Senate, ICPC

The Nigeria Police Force has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew before the Federal High Court in Abuja over his alleged involvement in the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), as pressure continues to mount on the Senate and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter.

Adeyemi was arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, impersonation and obtaining benefits under false pretences.

The Federal Government has maintained that the PFIPC is not a legally recognised government agency, alleging that it was used to misrepresent official authority and gain public confidence.

The controversy has sparked widespread calls for a thorough investigation into how the alleged agency operated and reportedly gained access to government institutions.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed the ICPC to investigate the activities surrounding the PFIPC and identify any individuals or officials who may have facilitated its operations.

Observers say the outcome of the investigation and the ongoing court proceedings could provide answers to questions surrounding the alleged activities of the council and strengthen accountability in public institutions.

The case was adjourned for further proceedings.
