Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command, through an intelligence led operation have uncovered an alleged baby factory at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.
The operation also led to the arrest of an attending nurse as the police intensified efforts to dismantle a syndicate allegedly involved in human trafficking and illegal adoption.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
Babaseyi said the operation was conducted at about 8:00 a.m. on August 24, 2026, when operatives stormed the syndicate’s hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had been taking place at the facility for some time.
According to him, the operatives rescued two pregnant victims, identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the facility.
Babaseyi explain that further intelligence-led operations took the police to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
He said the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established while the mother was receiving medical care, leading to the arrest of the attending nurse as investigations intensified to locate the infant.
The suspects arrested were Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and nurse Oseni Idaya.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, including efforts to locate the missing newborn and determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other violent crimes across the state.
