Oluremi Tinubu Urges Nigerians to Tackle Mental Health Stigma

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to tackle mental health stigma and include people with lived experience of mental health conditions in decisions affecting their care.

Oluremi made the call in a statement marking World Mental Health Day 2026 on Saturday, October 10, with the theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.”

She said their experiences and perspectives should inform policies and healthcare services, stressing that their participation must go beyond sharing personal stories to influencing decisions affecting their lives.

Oluremi also urged communities to listen to people with mental health conditions, challenge stigma and promote accessible, community-based care that respects their dignity and rights.

World Mental Health Day is observed annually on October 10 to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote well-being.
