The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, has met with Google’s Global Lead for Civic Responsibility, David J. Lopez, in Ottawa, Canada.

The meeting, held on Friday, was conducted on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Responsible AI and Elections.

The conference provides a platform for election management bodies, technology specialists and other stakeholders to assess the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence in electoral processes.

Amupitan attended the engagement alongside INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Lawrence Bayode.

The meeting comes amid growing efforts by election management bodies and technology stakeholders to explore how AI can be deployed to improve electoral processes while managing emerging risks ahead of future elections, including Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
