The Kogi Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has initiated discussions with the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, on a possible partnership to advance energy research, regulation, policy development, innovation and industry-academia collaboration in Kogi State.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of KERC, Engr. Ibrahim Abdulwaris, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, on Wednesday.
Engr. Abdulwaris said the commission was committed to promoting efficiency, orderliness and improved service delivery in the electricity sector across the state.
He expressed the commission’s interest in collaborating with the university on energy research and knowledge development, noting that the partnership could position CUSTECH as a centre of excellence in energy regulation and policy studies.
Abdulwaris also stressed the need for stronger collaboration between academia and industry to address emerging challenges in the electricity sector and develop practical solutions that would benefit electricity consumers.
In his response, The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu commended KERC for initiating the engagement, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen institutional ties and promote knowledge sharing.
He assured the commission of the university’s readiness to support initiatives that would contribute to the development of Kogi State, particularly through research and practical solutions to challenges in the energy sector.
The Vice Chancellor added that the proposed partnership would provide students and researchers with exposure to industry knowledge and practical experience in electricity regulation.
