Spanish football has been thrown into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who died aged 30 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a second-division match against FC Andorra.

The incident occurred on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium in Tenerife, when De Miguel collided with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono while challenging for a long ball during stoppage time.

Following the collision, the forward fell to the ground clutching his chest before collapsing. Medical personnel immediately attended to him before he was rushed to hospital, where he later died on Tuesday.

Owono received a straight red card following the incident, while the match, which was tied at 2-2, was abandoned.

In a statement confirming his death, CD Tenerife expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended its condolences to his family, friends, teammates and supporters.

Meanwhile, Spanish police have reportedly opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the possibility of involuntary manslaughter.

The football community has also reacted to the tragedy, with clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United expressing condolences. The Spanish Football Federation also postponed several cup fixtures as a mark of respect, while UEFA announced moments of silence at its matches.

De Miguel joined Tenerife in 2025 from Castellón and played a role in the club’s promotion to Spain’s second division.

His death has left the club and supporters mourning the loss of a player whose career was cut short by the tragic incident.
