Kogi State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has commenced a life skills training programme for facilitators across 65 Mass Literacy Education Centres in the state.
The training, held in Anyigba today, brought together facilitators from 21 local government areas in the state.
Speaking during the training, the Executive Director, Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development (PIBCID), Rachael Akande, said the programme was designed to build the capacity of facilitators who would, in turn, transfer life skills and knowledge to adolescent girls across the state.
Akande explained that the training focuses on equipping facilitators with the necessary tools to educate the girls on leadership, effective communication, menstrual and personal hygiene, gender-based violence, psychosocial support and other essential life skills.
According to her, the overall objective is to build the confidence of the girls, prepare them to become responsible leaders and empower them to make informed decisions that will positively impact their future and society.
She commended the Kogi State Government for its commitment to improving access to education for the girl child, noting that the AGILE project is giving renewed hope to many vulnerable girls across the state.
Also speaking, the Area Office Coordinator for Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Amodu Danjuma, commended the AGILE project and its partners for bringing the programme to the state.
Danjuma described the initiative as timely, saying it would help keep adolescent girls in school, prevent them from going astray and provide them with the skills needed to build a better future.
The Area Officer for Idah Local Government Area, Theresa Elojoh said the life skills training would empower the girls with confidence, leadership abilities and sound decision-making skills needed to succeed in life.
She urged participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired during the training for their personal development and success in future endeavours.
