The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Full Accreditation to the Nursing Science programme of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), marking another major milestone in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence.
The approval was conveyed in a letter dated July 13, 2026, and signed by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu. The accreditation followed the October and November 2025 accreditation exercise conducted across Nigerian universities.
According to the Commission, the Nursing Science programme met the required standards for Full Accreditation, a status that remains valid for five years. The programme reportedly recorded a cumulative score of 94.96 per cent during the assessment, satisfying the NUC’s benchmark in key areas, including academic matters, staffing, physical facilities, library resources, funding and research.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, described the accreditation as a significant achievement that reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to quality education and academic standards.
He congratulated the management, staff and students of the College of Health Sciences, particularly the Department of Nursing Science, for their dedication and hard work, which culminated in the successful accreditation.
Professor Ibileye said the outcome further reassures parents, students and other stakeholders of the university’s determination to sustain high academic standards while producing competent healthcare professionals capable of meeting national and global demands.
The latest accreditation adds to a series of recent academic successes recorded by the institution. Earlier this year, the NUC granted full accreditation to several other programmes at the university, including Mass Communication, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Sociology and Education Mathematics, following the same 2025 accreditation exercise.
The accreditation is expected to strengthen the university’s College of Health Sciences and boost confidence among prospective students seeking admission into the Nursing Science programme.
