The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to produce the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, within 48 hours as lawmakers intensify investigations into the operations of the alleged fake agency.
The directive was issued on Monday during a resumed investigative hearing of the House Ad-hoc Committee probing the activities of the PFIPC at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Chairman of the committee, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, ordered that Adeniyi be presented before the panel by 12 noon on Wednesday to answer questions surrounding the establishment and operations of the council, which lawmakers maintain was never legally created.
The committee is investigating how the organisation allegedly secured office space at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and received a budgetary allocation of ₦1.32 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite concerns over its legal status.
Representing the IGP, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi informed the committee that the police had already arraigned Adeniyi before the Federal High Court on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, impersonation and related offences, adding that the matter is pending before the court.
According to the police, investigations began following petitions alleging that Adeniyi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
The police also told lawmakers that signatures on documents purportedly issued from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President did not match authentic records, raising suspicions that several government documents had been forged.
The committee disclosed that investigators have identified about 29 suspected forged documents, including purported approvals from the State House, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Finance and other government institutions.
Following the briefing, the committee directed its clerk to formally communicate its resolution to the Inspector-General of Police, insisting that Adeniyi must appear before lawmakers within the stipulated 48 hours to assist the ongoing investigation.
