Davido Joins Public Outcry Over Detained Activist VeryDarkMan

Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has added his voice to the growing calls for the release of controversial social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, who is currently in police custody.

The activist was reportedly arrested after raising concerns over alleged unauthorised withdrawals from his late mother’s bank account during a visit to a new generation bank.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Davido applauded VeryDarkMan’s commitment to speaking truth to power, despite the backlash his methods sometimes attract. He acknowledged the online activist’s efforts in holding institutions accountable and inspiring young Nigerians to seek justice.

Davido further praised the groundswell of public support for VeryDarkMan, stating that the overwhelming response from fans and civil society reflects how much impact one individual can have.
According to him, such support not only validates the activist’s efforts but also encourages other public figures to do more for the general public.

“Outside all the noise, it’s good to see that the good one does impacts lives, and people appreciate it,” Davido wrote. “The support I’m seeing for VDM everywhere is encouraging, making one want to do more for the masses. Free my guy.”

VeryDarkMan, who has grown a large following for his fearless commentary on social issues, has frequently clashed with authorities. His recent detention has sparked conversations about freedom of expression and the role of digital activism in Nigeria’s democracy.Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has added his voice to the growing calls for the release of controversial social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, who is currently in police custody.
