Portugal Win Dramatic Nations League Final

Portugal glory returned in stunning fashion as they edged Spain 5-4 on penalties in the Nations League final. Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal and Diogo Costa’s shootout heroics crowned an emotional night in Munich.

Cristiano Ronaldo, though injured and off the pitch during the shootout, played a vital role in the comeback and later used his spotlight to defend 17-year-old Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal from mounting public pressure.

The final was a tale of determination and experience for Portugal, who came from behind twice thanks to goals from Nuno Mendes and Ronaldo himself. Spain had taken the lead through Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Oyarzabal, but Portugal’s veterans responded with clinical finishing and composure under pressure.

With the match level after extra time, the penalty shootout showcased Portugal’s poise. While all Portuguese players converted their spot-kicks, Spain faltered when captain Alvaro Morata’s effort was saved by Diogo Costa, handing Portugal the 5-4 win. Ruben Neves sealed the victory with the final kick.

After the celebrations, the spotlight shifted to the emotional Ronaldo, who not only lifted the trophy but also delivered a message of support and caution regarding Yamal. The teenage Barcelona forward had a quiet evening, kept largely at bay by Portugal’s Nuno Mendes, and was unable to make the expected impact.

“Lamine is going to win a lot of collective and individual titles. He’s a phenomenon,” Ronaldo told reporters. “He’s 17… Please, leave him alone. I have to ask you to let him be. He has to be calm.”
