Nigeria @ 65: Governor Ododo Reaffirms Commitment to People-Centred Development in Kogi State

As Nigeria commemorates 65 years of independence, the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has emphasized that his government remains focused on implementing transformative policies in key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and security—ensuring lasting benefits for current and future generations.

In a statewide address to mark the historic occasion, Governor Ododo
reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive, people-centred development across the state.

“We are committed to laying foundations that will secure the future of our children,” Governor Ododo declared, underscoring the long-term vision of his administration.

Reflecting on the significance of Independence Day, the Governor called on citizens to honour the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and draw strength from the collective resilience of the nation’s people.

“Today, as we join millions of Nigerians across the world to celebrate the 65th anniversary of our nation’s independence, we are reminded of the sacrifices of our founding fathers, the resilience of our people, and the unshakable hope that continues to drive us as one nation under God,” he stated.

Governor Ododo also used the opportunity to express deep condolences over the recent boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area, which claimed several lives. He described the tragedy as a sobering reminder of the need to prioritize safety in vulnerable communities.

“We are with you in grief, and we shall not relent in making water transportation safer in our riverine communities,” he assured the grieving families and the Ibaji community.

Highlighting some of the administration’s key achievements, the Governor pointed to major reforms in the education sector, aimed at liberating the next generation from the shackles of ignorance and underdevelopment.

“We have made education free and accessible in order to guarantee the independence of future generations from ignorance and limitations,” he said. “We are also breaking barriers to girl-child education by ensuring that education is not only free for every girl, but also supported with cash transfers through the AGILE programme.”

Governor Ododo further expressed strong support for the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the President’s decisive leadership in setting Nigeria on the path of sustainable development.

“Let us continue to support the laudable reforms of our dear President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose bold steps have set a template for sustainable development,” he urged.

He concluded his address with a patriotic call to unity, resilience, and collective action, invoking the spirit of nationhood as the country charts a new course for progress.

“May the labours of our heroes past never be in vain. May Kogi State continue to shine as the Confluence of Opportunities. And may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
