Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been honoured with the Golden Award of Excellence for Education and Teachers’ Friendliness by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
The award was conferred on the Governor during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Eagle Square, Abuja on Sunday in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the welfare of teachers and development of education in the state.
According to the NUT, the award celebrates Governor Ododo’s visible impact in repositioning Kogi’s education sector through prompt payments of salary, massive school renovation projects, and the integration of innovation into teaching and learning.
The union described him as a true “friend of teachers” whose policies reflect genuine commitment to human capital development.
Deputy Governor of the state, Comrade Joel Salifu who received the award on behalf of Governor Ododo conveyed the Governor’s gratitude to the NUT, assuring that the administration remains fully committed to sustaining reforms that improve the welfare and dignity of teachers across the state.
Accompanied by top government officials, including members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, and stakeholders in the education sector, the Deputy Governor noted that the award represents a national endorsement of Governor Ododo’s leadership and vision to transform the state.
He emphasized that the recognition would further strengthen the administration’s resolve to deliver lasting progress in the education sector.
The event attracted dignitaries from across the country who all commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering commitment to improving education and teachers’ welfare.
