Kogi Govt Restates Commitment to Safer Roads

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed commitment to stronger collaboration and expanded support for crash victims through advocacy and welfare initiatives in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Road Safety Matters, Hon. Yusuf Suberu, disclosed this on at the Kogi Road Safety Summit held in commemoration of the United Nations World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, with the theme, “Safer Roads for All.”

Hon. Suberu said the event seeks to honour victims of road crashes and renew collective action towards reducing road accidents in Kogi State.

He described the Day of Remembrance as a call to policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and citizens to take shared responsibility for road safety.

He further noted that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is prioritizing road safety education in communities, stressing its commitment to safer roads and reduced fatalities across the state.

In his remarks, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kogi state, Tenimu Etuku emphasized that road safety should be seen as a shared responsibilit.

He highlights economic and social impact of road crashes on individuals, families, and communities while warning against reckless driving, fatigue, and desperation during the festive period.

He called for stronger synergy among security agencies, transport unions, and road users to make roads safer in the state.

“FRSC alone cannot achieve the goal of zero crashes; it requires collaboration, continuous sensitization, and collective responsibility”.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hon. Atima Muktar, commended Governor Ododo’s proactive approach to road safety in the state.

He reminded participants that effective disaster management and road safety can only be achieved through partnership.

“Disaster management is everybody’s business and only through partnership can we save lives.”

As part of the summit, participants engage in technical workshop for road users and drivers on safety practices and better orientation for driving in Nigeria.
