Norwegian Footballer Handed Suspended Sentence Over Leaked Video Scandal

Norway international Andreas Schjelderup has received a two-week suspended prison sentence from a Danish court after being found guilty of distributing sexual content involving two minors.

Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup, 21, told the court he had received a 27-second video via Snapchat and, unaware of its full content, forwarded it to a group chat with four friends before deleting it.

At the time of the incident, Schjelderup was 19 and playing for Danish Superliga club Nordsjaelland. He cooperated fully with the police investigation and pleaded guilty.

Under the court’s ruling, the suspended sentence means he will only serve jail time if he commits another offence within the next 12 months.

The prosecution had requested a minimum 20-day prison sentence for Schjelderup.

His lawyer, Anders Nemeth, told the court that the defense would take time to consider whether to appeal the verdict.

Rui Costa, president of Portuguese club Benfica, has previously expressed the club’s support for Schjelderup.

On November 8, Schjelderup posted an apology on Instagram, calling the incident “a stupid mistake” and saying he wanted to be transparent with everyone.

He added that he was “ready to face the consequences” and urged people not to watch or share videos containing harmful or offensive content.

Schjelderup emphasized that the offence “does not reflect who I am as a person and what I stand for.”

The 21-year-old, who has eight caps for Norway, was an unused substitute during Norway’s 4-1 victory over Italy in Milan, which secured their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
