The Senate has revived national attention on the tragic case of 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje, who died after alleged years of sexual abuse, by intervening in the family’s prolonged struggle for justice.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central on Tuesday presented a petition submitted by the Ogbanje family, urging the Senate to ensure accountability for those accused in the matter.
The petition, which details the family’s call for the conviction of the alleged perpetrators, was admitted as an urgent national issue.
The Senate referred the petition to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, instructing it to begin immediate legislative action.
The intervention marks a renewed push by the National Assembly to deliver justice in a case that has long stirred public outrage and demands for accountability.
