Manchester United bounced back from a half-time deficit and overcame their struggles at Selhurst Park to climb back into the Premier League’s top six with a win over Crystal Palace.
Anthony Martial scored the last time United won on the ground in July 2020, and the team had not found the net since Bruno Fernandes’ goal in January 2023.
With Palace leading at halftime thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s penalty -scored after a retake-few expected Ruben Amorim’s side to turn around their poor record.
As visiting fans cheekily paid tribute to legendary striker Eric Cantona -whose infamous 1995 incident at this ground led to a nine-month football ban and a brief prison sentence that was later overturned -United’s current stars finally stepped up.
Struggling forward Joshua Zirkzee, who had been criticized after a poor performance in the loss to 10-man Everton, justified Ruben Amorim’s decision to start him by equalizing with a powerful strike from a tight angle nine minutes into the second half.
Shortly after, Mason Mount calmly finished off a low shot from a free-kick pass by Bruno Fernandes, beating Dean Henderson to put United ahead.
The win ended United’s three-match winless streak and denied Palace the chance to secure a top-four spot with a victory.
