Lugard House Monthly – 7th Edition

Kogi State has continued to experience a steady repositioning across key sectors, but the past month stands out as one defined by decisions, renewed energy and clear direction under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

For years, conversations around governance in the state often revolved around calls to strengthen institutions for better service delivery and enhance overall pace of development.

Since Governor Ododo assumed office, the pace of progress has become even more pronounced.

One of the defining moments was the presentation of the ₦820.49 billion 2026 Budget to the State House of Assembly in an ambitious yet strategic roadmap aimed at consolidating growth, accelerating infrastructure development and expanding opportunities for citizens across all sectors. The governor’s proposal did not only reflect careful planning, it signals a long-term commitment to building a resilient and prosperous Kogi State.

Equally significant was the announcement that construction work on the Zariagi International Airport will commence next year. For a state long in need of expanded gateways to commerce, tourism and investment, this development marks a historic step towards unlocking new economic possibilities.

In the health sector, Kogi’s rise to 10th place in the National Health Care Delivery Index, alongside the commissioning of 80 revitalised Primary Healthcare Centres, reflects the government’s intentional effort to improve last-mile healthcare delivery. These achievements are complemented by ongoing fiscal reforms in the local government system designed to strengthen accountability and efficiency across the grassroots.

Security also remained a cornerstone of the administration’s agenda. The distribution of new operational vehicles and motorcycles to security agencies, as well as the hosting of National Defence College Course 34 plus the visit of Governor Ododo to heads of security agencies reaffirm Governor Ododo’s prioritisation of peace and stability as the foundation for sustainable development.

Beyond security and health, the government continued to push boundaries in energy development, rural infrastructure and community support. From new transformers and water projects to enhanced public utilities and bursary support for over over 20,000 students, these interventions reflect a leadership focused on inclusive growth that touches every life and in every community.

The political landscape also shifted as notable figures including former Governor Idris Wada and several other leaders of opposition political parties brought thousands of their supporters into the APC, signalling a new phase of political alignment and consolidation in the state.

This edition goes behind the scenes to show how a government in motion remains responsive, inclusive and progressive in reshaping everyday experiences of citizens across Kogi State. From transparency ratings under NG-CARES, engagements with national institutions on electoral justice to intensified security measures ahead of the festive period, the Ododo administration continues to reinforce its commitment to building a stronger, safer and more united Kogi state.

We also bring you detailed reports on key policies, programmes and political developments that shaped governance in the state in the past month.
