Magassa’s Late Strike Earns West Ham Draw, Halts Man Utd’s Top Five Push

West Ham flipped the script on set-pieces to earn a late draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Soungoutou Magassa netting an 83rd-minute equaliser.

Much of the pre-match focus was on West Ham boss Ruben Amorim, who admitted to borrowing tactical ideas from fellow managers to improve his team’s set-piece threat.

Ironically, United had been level with Arsenal for the most set-piece goals this season, while West Ham had let in more than any other side – until they turned the tables in dramatic fashion.

Ironically, it was a set-piece that undid Manchester United, as a corner led to Jarrod Bowen’s flick being cleared off the line by Noussair Mazraoui, only for the ball to fall kindly to Soungoutou Magassa, who rifled in his first goal for West Ham.

The goal wasn’t enough to lift West Ham out of the relegation zone, but it denied United a chance to climb to fifth in the Premier League standings.

Diogo Dalot had earlier put the hosts ahead with his first league goal in over two years, calmly finishing after a deflected Casemiro shot fell to him in the box in the 58th minute.

Despite the lead, United looked uninspired and sluggish for most of the game, continuing a poor run that has seen them win just once in five matches.

The final whistle was met with scattered boos from frustrated fans at Old Trafford.
