Ruthless Super Eagles Sweep Aside Mozambique to March into AFCON Last Eight

Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a statement performance on Monday night, cruising past Mozambique 4–0 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

From the opening whistle at the Stade du Complexe Sportif de Fès, the West Africans imposed their authority, blending pace, precision and control to overwhelm their opponents and underline their title ambitions.

The breakthrough arrived midway through the first half when Ademola Lookman capped a fluid attacking sequence with a composed finish to put Nigeria in front.

The goal unsettled Mozambique, and the Super Eagles quickly took advantage, with Victor Osimhen reacting fastest to a loose ball in the area five minutes later to double the lead and firmly swing the momentum Nigeria’s way.

Any hopes of a Mozambican comeback were extinguished early in the second half as Osimhen struck again moments after the restart, punishing defensive hesitation to claim his brace.

Nigeria continued to press with confidence and discipline, stretching the game and keeping their opponents pinned deep in their own half.

The contest was effectively put to bed in the 75th minute when Akor Adams added a fourth with a tidy finish, crowning a dominant team display. Mozambique, featuring in only their second AFCON knockout match, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s intensity and failed to seriously test the Super Eagles’ backline.

Nigeria now turns their focus to a quarter-final showdown with the winner of Algeria versus DR Congo, as they chase a coveted fourth continental crown.
