Tinubu Appoints Odusote as First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

Her appointment, effective from January 10, 2026, is for a renewable term of four years.

Dr. Odusote, aged 57, currently serves as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Law School. With this elevation, she makes history as the first female to lead the institution since its inception in 1962.

She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, the current Director-General, whose eight-year tenure ends on January 9, 2026.

Odusote earned her LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also holds an LL.M. from OAU, with a focus on Company and Commercial Law.

She later obtained a Doctorate in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where her research centred on Public Law and the administration of justice.

Dr. Odusote began her academic journey at the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer. Since then, she has held several prominent roles, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus.

Throughout her career, she has been committed to raising the standards of legal education. She served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK and has consistently contributed to academic and professional discourse.

A respected legal scholar, Dr. Odusote has published widely in both local and international journals and has delivered papers at various conferences focused on legal training and professional development.

She has also played active roles in policy development through her service on multiple committees under the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), driving key reforms within the legal education system.

As Director-General, Dr. Odusote will oversee the academic and administrative operations of the Nigerian Law School across all its campuses. Her role will encompass strategic planning, programme oversight, and driving the ongoing modernisation of the institution.

She will also act as the chief liaison between the Law School and critical stakeholders such as the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association, ensuring alignment with national legal education standards and professional expectations.
