The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of a devastating windstorm in Ajaokuta and Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency of Kogi State.
The intervention followed the approval of the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, for the release of relief items aimed at providing humanitarian support to victims of the disaster.
According to a statement from NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office, four-member monitoring team was deployed to supervise the exercise in line with the agency’s standard operating procedures and ensure transparency and accountability.
The distribution of materials, held at the Otunba Richard Ayeni Civic Centre in Ogori, was carried out in collaboration with the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
Items distributed included 500 bags each of 25kg rice, beans and maize, 100 cartons each of vegetable oil, seasoning cubes and tomato paste, as well as 100 bags of iodised salt and 200 bags of cement.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Secretary of KOSEMA, Mukhtar Atima, commended NEMA and the Federal Government for the timely intervention.
Atima noted that the support would help cushion the impact of the disaster and aid recovery efforts in the affected communities.
Similarly, Chairman of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, Hon. Goke Oparison, alongside community leaders and beneficiaries, expressed appreciation for the prompt response, describing the intervention as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting disaster victims and vulnerable communities.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance and supporting recovery efforts in disaster-affected communities across the country.
