Haiti and Türkiye have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering their second consecutive defeats in the group stage on Friday.
In Philadelphia, the United States, five-time world champions Brazil secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti in a Group C encounter. Matheus Cunha opened the scoring with a close-range finish after Vinicius Jr’s effort was saved, before adding a second with a powerful strike from inside the penalty area. Vinicius Jr completed the scoring in first-half stoppage time.
The defeat leaves Haiti at the bottom of Group C with no points from two matches and a goal difference of -4. Their final group game against Morocco on June 24 will have no impact on qualification. Brazil moved to the top of the group on goal difference ahead of Morocco.
In Group D, Türkiye’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage ended following a 1-0 loss to Paraguay at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. Matias Galarza scored the fastest goal of the tournament so far, finding the net just 64 seconds into the match.
Despite pushing for an equaliser and benefiting from a late Paraguayan red card, Türkiye were unable to break through. The result leaves them without a point from their opening two matches, confirming their exit from the competition.
Paraguay, meanwhile, kept their qualification hopes alive ahead of their final group match against Australia.
Haiti’s appearance marked their first World Cup participation since 1974, while Türkiye’s campaign ended earlier than expected despite entering the tournament with high hopes.
