Kogi State Unveils N316 Million Bursary Boost for 8,750 Undergraduates

Kogi State has announced the approval of a N316 million bursary fund aimed at providing financial assistance to undergraduate students from the state. Governor Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo initiated this support as part of his administration’s broader effort to alleviate the financial challenges faced by students in higher education.

The bursary will benefit a total of 8,750 cleared undergraduate students, offering them crucial financial relief to help cover their educational expenses. Additionally, the initiative includes a special provision for law students, with 201 recipients set to receive N300,000 each. This targeted allocation reflects the state government’s recognition of the rigorous demands of legal education and its commitment to supporting specialized professional training.

At a press briefing, Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that it aligns with the administration’s ongoing strategy to enhance educational access and reduce dropout rates. He also presented a complementary N5 million scholarship to ERASMUS+ Scholar Favour Oluwatimilehin Adebayo, underscoring the government’s dedication to supporting academic excellence and providing opportunities for students pursuing advanced studies.

The Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board, Afolabi Joseph Raji, expressed the administration’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible students receive financial aid. He emphasized that the investment in education is a strategic move to empower young people, produce skilled graduates, and foster socioeconomic development across the state. The bursary scheme is expected to have a substantial positive impact on students’ academic performance, helping them overcome financial barriers and focus on their studies.
