Ododo Empowers Kogi Widows with Palliatives

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo empowers widows in Kogi by distributing palliatives to 1,500 vulnerable women, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to supporting and uplifting widows across the state.

The distribution, which took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre in Lokoja, saw beneficiaries drawn from all 21 local government areas of the state receive food supplies, clothing materials, and financial assistance.

In a heartfelt address during the ceremony, Governor Ododo stressed the moral and social responsibility of caring for widows and disadvantaged citizens. He described their welfare as a core concern of his administration, noting that policies under his leadership would continue to reflect their needs. “Widows are not forgotten, they are strong, resilient, and deserve every support to thrive,” he said.

Beyond the distribution of material items, the governor outlined a broader agenda designed to offer widows sustainable opportunities. These include access to skills training, healthcare, small business funding, and educational support for their children.

According to Ododo, these efforts are meant to empower widows not just to survive, but to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the state’s development.

The gesture, part of the federal government’s Renewed Hope Initiative championed by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, aligns with Kogi State’s local strategy to provide enduring relief and social safety nets for those in need. The initiative reflects a unified approach between state and federal leadership in addressing economic hardship at the grassroots level.

Beneficiaries at the event expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as timely and deeply impactful. Many shared personal testimonies on how the palliatives would ease their burdens and provide a foundation for stability. They also lauded the governor’s emphasis on building a system that addresses their long-term needs.

Governor Ododo concluded his remarks by encouraging widows to make wise use of the resources received and assured them that the state government would continue to stand by them. “This is just the beginning of a larger journey. You are not alone, and as long as I serve you, your welfare will remain a top priority,” he declared.
